Lead Teaching Artist

Blackbird Arts is looking for a dynamic and creative Lead Teaching Artist for Summer 2017.

The pay rate is $20/hr.  10 – 20 hours per week.

The Lead Teaching Artist is responsible for developing and teaching art classes for children ages 6 -12.

 

Responsibilities include:

•Planning class sequence and structure and working closely with Studio Assistant and other teaching artists to plan quality art ojects in drawing, painting, clay, printmaking, sculpture, etc.

•Studio preparation, materials management, set up and clean up.

•Entering a weekly blog about summer camps.

Works 4-5 hours/day, 2 – 4 days/week, M-Th. Additional time may be required for meetings, planning, or studio events.

 

Qualifications:

•Successful experience working with elementary age children in an art setting.

•Familiarity with and sensitivity to developmental needs of children, including learning styles, age-approprianess of curriculum, and positive classroom management.

•Strong written and oral skills for parent and public communication.

•Familiarity with social media, Excel, Word, basic computer applications.

BFA or Bachelors’ in Art Education preferred.

Studio Teaching Assistant

Blackbird Arts is looking for an organized, enthusiastic Studio Teaching Assistant for Summer 2017. 

The Studio Teaching Assistant is responsible for supporting the Lead Teaching Artist, managing the children’s art studio, helping students, and aiding other aspects of studio and camp operations.

 

The Studio Teaching Assistant responsibilities include:

•Managing supply inventory. Maintaining and organizing studio.

•Supporting Lead Teaching Artist with studio operations, including set up and clean up.

•Providing classroom management support, as well as assisting with instruction as needed.

Works 4 days/week.  4-5 hours/day. Additional time may be required for meetings, planning, or studio events.

 

Qualifications:

·      Experience working with elementary children in an art setting.

·      Organized, has an eye for detail, and works well both independently and collaboratively.

·      Basic computer and social media skills.

·      Good interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate with elementary children.

Early Childhood Arts Educator

Blackbird Arts seeks an energetic and motivated Early Childhood Arts Educator for Summer 2017. 

The Early Childhood Arts Educator is responsible developing and teaching meaningful, hands-on art activities for young children ages 2 – 6 years old.

 

Responsibilities:

•Design and teach art for young children in a variety of media including drawing, painting,  clay, sculpture, printmaking, etc. that allows students to express themselves fully.

•Plan age-appropriate lessons that allow for the development of the child.

•Prepare and maintain studio, including set up and clean up.

•Communicate with families regarding their child and the art studio program.

•Write and post a weekly blog about the class.

 

Qualifications:

 •1 – 2 years successful experience working with pre-school children.

•Thorough knowledge of art media and developmental needs of young children

 •Experience with Montessori or Waldorf teaching methods a plus

•Bachelors’ degree in Art Education, or BFA preferred.

 

The pay rate is $20/hr. Half-day mornings, 12 -20 hr./week.
