Studio Teaching Assistant      ---- (POSITION IS FILLED)

Blackbird Arts seeks a Studio Teaching Assistant for the 2018 summer season. This position is part time, mid-June through late August, and hours are 8:30 am-12:30 pm, Monday through Thursday. The position may also include some afternoon hours, as well as occasional offsite events on evenings or weekends.

The Studio Teaching Assistant’s roles and responsibilities will include:

  • setting up the studio and prepping the camp classrooms
  • assisting the lead teacher
  • overseeing the general studio operations during camp hours
  • greeting and conversing with students and families
  • tracking attendance and registration, and a variety of other administrative and classroom tasks

 

The ideal Studio Teaching Assistant will be very positive, organized, patient, good humored, creative, and have strong troubleshooting techniques. It is essential that all applicants have an education experience, including at least two years of working hands-on in a classroom setting, a deep understanding of development for children ages 3-17 years and excellent classroom management skills. The ideal candidate should also be comfortable working with adults in a classroom setting.

Lead Teaching Artist

July through August, with potential to extend until December 2018.

This position is part time, and summer hours are approximately 9:00 am-12:00 pm, Monday through Thursday. The position may also include some afternoon hours, as well as offsite events on evenings or weekends. There is potential opportunity for the Lead Teacher to develop and propose their own visual art classes for Blackbird Arts once the summer season concludes, and the Lead Teacher will have access to the Blackbird studios during the course of their position, and is encouraged to develop their personal artistic portfolio during this time.

  • will work closely with and supervise the Studio Teaching Assistant during the summer camp session.

Qualifications

The ideal Lead Teacher will hold a degree in their artistic field or arts education. They must be very organized, good humored, and have strong troubleshooting techniques.

It is essential that all applicants have an education background, including at least four years of experience working hands-on in a classroom setting, as well as excellent classroom management skills. A wide knowledge base of educational practice and children’s developmental needs is essential. The ideal candidate will have the ability to adapt art instruction for a wide age range, and will be well-versed in a variety of 2D and 3D artistic mediums, plus art history and contemporary media as it pertains to visual art.
