Call for Submissions from Adults for Grayscale: Voices of LGBTQ+ Youth
DEADLINE: ongoing project
Blackbird Arts is seeking first-person, hand-written narratives for an online exhibition of Grayscale. We are looking for LGBTQ+ adults 18-100+ years to write “Letters to My Younger Self” that explore one’s experience as an LGBTQ+ youth. Now that you are an adult, what do you wish your younger self had understood/ known/experienced? Some questions to consider when writing the letter:
1) What was your experience coming of age as you became more aware of your identity and/or orientation?
2) What is your coming out story (if you have one)?
3) How have your friends/family shaped your identity and/or orientation?
4) What events are memorable/are there any you’d like to change?
Please include one photograph that captures something about you. This may be a portrait, a place, or an object. Photos will be displayed with the letters. Photo size limit is 8x10. Suggested letter size is one page.
These submissions will scanned and added to an online exhibition: Grayscale: Voices of LGBTQ+ Youth. Your entry can be named or anonymous, but we ask that you please list your current age at the bottom of the letter. Photos will be returned if you include a self-addressed envelope.
Please send to:
