Screenprinting Weekend Crash-Course

Learn the fundamentals of screen printing and gain access to Blackbird Book Arts and Press Screen printing facilities! This course develops a basic understanding of screen printing. Create a simple design and explore the printing possibilities from screenprinting artwork on paper to printing t-shirts, bags and other swag. Students who complete this course are eligible for independent use of the screenprinting studio with director permission. 

Dates:  September 22 & 23 (Friday, 6-9pm and Saturday 1-6pm) OR October 20 & 21 (Friday 6-9pm and Saturday 1-6pm)

Cost: $145 includes all materials.

Screenprinting on Wood

Using a photograph or artwork, learn the process of burning a screen and printing on various types of wood using a photo emulsion method.  Students experiment with a variety of wood types and techniques to create individual projects. 

6:30-8:30 pm:  2 Wednesdays, October 25 & Nov 1

OR

12:30-2:30pm: 2 Thursdays, October 26 & Nov 2

Cost: $75 includes all materials. Students are welcome to bring additional wood for experimenting.

Introduction to Screenprinting 

This course develops a working knowledge of screen printing, from conception and design to final print. Students will learn the basics of four color printing process and the steps necessary to prepare artwork for printing.  Develop a design and explore the printing possibilities from screenprinting artwork on paper to printing t-shirts, bags and more. Students who complete this session gain access to Blackbird Book Arts and Press screen printing facilities and are eligible for independent use of the screenprinting studio with director permission.

6:30-8:30 pm: 4 Wednesdays, Sept 27-Oct 18

12:30-2:30pm: 4 Thursdays, Sept 28-Oct 19

Cost: $165 includes all materials.

Screenprinting on Clay

Learn this exciting technique that combines processes of both silkscreen printing and clay handbuilding! Begin with a black and white image and learn to "burn" a silkscreen using a photo emulsion method.  Students learn a variety of clay slab handbuilding techniques and create individual boxes or panels. They'll "burn" screens in the printmaking studio, then choose underglaze colors and learn to pull a print on clay. Projects will go through two kiln firings and be ready in approximately 2-3 weeks.
