Blackbird Arts' ceramics studio is a bright, well-equipped studio with six wheels, a handbuilding table, slab roller, extruder, electric kiln and a raku kiln. We offer a flexible summer pass for weekly classes for beginner to intermediate and Open Studio for artists with more advanced skills who wish to work independently. We also offer private lessons, parties, workshops, youth classes, community programs and more.
Summer Ceramics Classes
Intermediate to Advanced Wheelthrowing
(choose any six out of eight weeks)
Already familiar with the pottery wheel and comfortable centering and throwing a variety of vessels? This class helps move students to a new level in design and execution. We'll explore more complicated forms and ways to combine hand-built and thrown pieces to find your unique style. An instructor demonstrates new techniques each week and students may choose the direction to go with their pottery.
Dates/Times: Classes begin the week of June 18
DAY CLASS: choose 6 out of 8 Tuesdays, 10am-12pm, begins 6/19 (no classes July 2-5).
EVENING CLASS: choose 6 out of 8 Tuesdays: 6-8pm, begins 6/19 (no classes July 2-5).
Cost: $225 includes all materials, 25# bag of clay, glazes, firings, and shelf rental. Unlimited open studio time included during the duration of the course.

Beginner and Beyond Wheelthrowing
Learn or refresh the basics of wheel throwing and how to center, open, pull, shape and trim shapes such as cups, bowls and other vessels. High-fire clay and glazing will be covered. Open studio sessions are included FREE in the price, so students can experiment and practice what they learn. We provide lots of one-on-one instruction, so students may work in independent directions.

OPEN STUDIO PASSES (NO INSTRUCTION)
Our open studio passes are for experienced potters comfortable working on their own and without instruction. They allow maximum flexibility while keeping up with skills on the wheel or handbuilding. For potters new to the ceramics program at Blackbird Arts, we require an orientation session to familiarize new students with our procedures. Please email email@example.com to arrange.

Unlimited open studio time for the pottery wheel or handbuilding. Begin any day after June 18 and continue for 30 calendar days.

*Additional materials may be purchased if needed: 25# bag of clay that includes glazes and firings for $95 or students can pay by the cubic inch.
Handbuilt tiles Workshop
Two Thursdays, August 9 & 16, 5:30-8pm
Explore building unique tiles using two different techniques: carving and appliqué. Beginning with a hardened slab of clay, participants carve a design or transfer an image to carve. In the second class we'll explore building up a tile, where the image is raised. Price includes open studio time to work on pieces and enough materials to create 4-5 tiles, all glazes and kiln firings.
Cost: $65, includes all materials, glazes and kiln firings. Open studio time is included in the price.

Thursday, July 19, 6-8pm
Adults and adults with children 10+ years
Create a clay lantern perfect for lighting up late summer nights. Beginning with a slab of clay, you'll create patterns for light and add small sculptures to personalize it. All you need to do is add a candle and you’ll have soft light for dinners, card playing or summer picnics.
$35/person includes all materials and kiln firings.
