Youth Art Classes

At Blackbird Arts, our children's art classes focus on both the joyful process of art making and the incredible experience of having created something from one's imagination. Our teaching artists establish an encouraging, nurturing, and creative atmosphere where students feel comfortable experimenting and problem-solving with art. We emphasize:

Creative Process and Critical Thinking Skills – Not only are students taught the technical skills of various art media processes, they learn to visualize options,  experiment, take risks to create, express themselves, evaluate, rethink problems and work independently. They also gain confidence, learn to respect and collaborate with other group members and have FUN!

Community Engagement – Blackbird Arts works to connect students with real-life creative problems and solutions in their communities. We offer opportunities to collaborate with community partners during Empty Bowls Workshops, Accessible Arts programs, Benchmark, and at art programs throughout the community.

Each class has a limited enrollment in order to give students a quality personal experience and the individual attention needed for success.

Studio Sprouts

Our newest early childhood arts program is specially designed for curious three- to six- year-olds. In a professional studio environment, children explore a variety of materials, art processes and tools where each activity facilitates fine motor skill development, problem solving, and creative growth. Teaching artists introduce age appropriate levels of visual arts concepts and skills in a fun and engaging environment.

At Blackbird Arts, we integrate topics about the natural world into visual arts, music, books, and movement so children begin to develop their unique visual language. All classes are hands-on, process-driven and support the brain connections that happen with quality early childhood arts education.
